TitleCopy letter from Herbert Rix, to Messrs Herries, Farquhar & Company
Date11 December 1890
DescriptionOn the other side of this letter [not present] the Messrs will find a Resolution of Council of the Royal Society passed on the 1 December and communicated to Messrs Robarts Lubbock & Company on the same day. As the Messrs occasionally cash cheques for the Society it is necessary they note that Dr [Michael] Foster's signature will for the present be valid in place of Dr [John] Evans'. Sir George Gabriel Stokes retired from the Presidency on 1 December and was succeeded by Sir William Thomson, so that the Government Grant cheques will, if dated subsequently to 1 December, be signed by Thomson. Signatures of Thomson and Foster as President and Senior Secretary are provided.
