Description'Dear Sirs,
We have received information from the Russian Government that the two and a half metre standard and accompanying apparatus, which was sent to you by the British South Africa Company in July last to be overhauled and packed for return to St Petersburg, has been received there very badly damaged.
I shall be much obliged by your giving me any information you have with regard to the condition of the instruments when despatched and the mode of packing, likely to bear upon investigation which is about to be made into the circumstances.'
