| Description | Shaw's letter to Richard Tetley Glazebrook of 7 May 1909, giving notice of the cessation at the end of 1910 of the Meteorological subsidy hitherto paid to Kew Observatory as a first order station of the public meteorological service, has been passed on to President and Council by the Executive Committee of the National Physical Laboratory. The Royal Society is closely interested in the maintenance of Kew, and have nominated a committee to consider the situation, in concert with representatives of the National Physical Laboratory.
The report of the Committee is sent herewith [no enclosures]. The President and Council are willing to take the report, which goes beyond the question which gave rise to it, as a basis for a new arrangement with regard to meteorology and the cognate sciences so far as the Royal Society is concerned. President and Council will be glad to receive the views of the Meteorological Committee on the matter. |
