Description'Dear Sir,
In confirmation of the conversation which the Committee of the Royal Society had with you yesterday afternoon with regard to the mission, in which HM Secretary of State for the Colonies has placed you under the instructions of the Royal Society's Committee, I am requested by that Committee to inform you as follows:-
(1) The primary purpose of your mission is to study the entomology of Glossina in its relation to Sleeping Sickness.
(2) In pursuance of this enquiry the Committee consider that the following should form the principal subjects of your investigation:- (a) The food supply of the fly. (b) Its breeding grounds. (c) The enemies of the fly and its pupa. (c) The duration of the life of the fly. (e) The duration of the infectivity of the flies on the Lake shore.'
