Date27 May 1910
Description'Dear Sirs,
I am directed to acknowledge the receipt of your letter of yesterday, and note what you say. Before, however, anything is done in the send of your letter, the matter must come before Council; and I must ask you therefore to let the matter stand over until the Council shall have met again.
Referring to your remarks on the subject of the Meteorological Society, I have to inform you that they are not concerned in this Trust; but the Meteorological Officer, which is controlled by a Committee nominated by HM Government, but composed partly of Fellows of the Royal Society, is the authority which has approved the arrangement referred to in our letter of the 6th inst[ant].'
