TitleCopy letter from Joseph Larmor to The Secretary, HM Treasury
DateUndated
DescriptionLarmor is directed by the President and Council, who considered the question of continuance of adhesion of this country to the International Seismic Association, to reply as follows.
It is pointed out in Dr Schuster's letter that all the other nations had now adhered for the full term of twelve years, to September 30, 1918. Thus is this country seceded it would stand alone; this would be a misfortune in view of the fact that the foundation of the science of Seismology was laid by an Englishman, and that the pre-dominant position of this country in the subject is universally recognised. In view of this and other reasons the President and Council of the Royal Society consider that the adhesion of Great Britain to the International Seismic Association should be continued.
