DescriptionBradford has been directed by President and Council of the Royal Society to direct the attention of the Secretary of State to the valuable services which Captain A E Hamerton and Captain H R Bateman have rendered to medical science in connection with the investigation into tropical diseases upon which they have been engaged upon in Uganda. They were seconded for special service in Uganda when they proceeded to join the [Sleeping Sickness] Commission under the direction of Sir David Bruce. They have been instrumental in carrying out important researches upon trypanosome diseases, and their labours are recorded in a series of papers which are still being communicated to the Royal Society. They have done very valuable work in the advancement of tropical medicine.
