TitleCopy letter from Joseph Larmor and John Rose Bradford, to The Lord Brassey
Date1 November 1910
DescriptionIt has come to the attention of the Royal Society that a public committee has been organised under the auspices of the British Empire League to promote a memorial in London to Captain James Cook, and that subscriptions will be received by Brassey. The Royal Society would like to express gratification that a memorial is now a prospect. The Society was closely connected with the initiation of Cook's famous voyage, and the selection of his command. Sir Joseph Banks was one of one of Cook's companions, and was later President of the Royal Society. The sum of 25 guineas is being enclosed as a subscription, and the Society would like to have information in due course as to the form which it is proposed that the memorial shall assume.
