Description'The Committee of Papers have had under consideration the paper by Mr G Stead on the Anode and Cathode Spectra of Various Gases and Vapours, communicated by you, together with a report of the Sectional Committee for Physics and Chemistry thereon; and I have to inform you that they have decided to accept the paper for publication in the Proceedings [of the Royal Society] conditionally upon the author agreeing to reduce it to half its present length. I therefore return the MS [manuscript[ to you and shall be glad to know whether Mr Stead is willing to condense the paper in accordance with the decision of the Committee.'
