TitleCopy letter from Joseph Larmor to The Lord Rayleigh OM, FRS [Fellow of the Royal Society]
Date8 August 1911
DescriptionLarmor is authorised by the Physics Committee to ask for Rayleigh's assistance in judging as to the publication of the paper sent herewith [no enclosure]. As Rayleigh will see, Jeans will have none of it and Larmor's sympathies are on the side of the author. Larmor writes that he agrees with Kirscoff and with Botzmann that the Maxwell method which he is trying to extend is a very beautiful one.
Larmor writes that he is one of the very ablest of the younger people in recent years and is keen to go further into the subject; so it is undesirable to damp him. Larmor understands that it is the question of sines that decides Jean's opinion; that will not take too long to judge.'
