| Description | Geikie gives the Council's opinion on the question of decentralization of certain departments in India connected with science and learning. He gives examples of services he has experience with; including the Meteorological and Astronomical Services and the Archaeology of India. He stresses the importance of their administrative activities for the enhancement of the international position of India in the field of learning and in investigation of her [India's] historic monuments.
In order that such co-operation may be effective and fruitful, investigators in India should obviously be in touch with the best and most recent European thought.
The Council has order Geikie to respectfully ask for consideration by the Government of India of this aspect of the subject, with a view to combining local autonomy with advice and supervision from an expert central authority. |
