Description | 'With reference to your request for further proofs of your paper now printing for the Phil[osophical] Trans[actions of the Royal Society], I fear I should be exceeding my powers in having additional pulls struck off for you gratuitously. Our regular practice is to have two proofs of every Phil Trans paper, one of which is sent to the author for correction, the other being retained here for reference. Anything beyond this is charges extra for by the printers, and as your paper is a long one the extra charge would be one which I should be called upon to justify when the accounts come through for payment. If you are prepared to defray the printers' charges for the extra proofs there will be no difficulty and they can be ordered at once.' |
