| Description | In answer to Cust's letter, we [the Royal Society] are all sorry that Cust was not able to carry out his original intention of examining the the portraits in the possession of this Society; but Harrison will be happy to show Cust any that interest him. Harrison describes how the records of the acquirement of these portraits are very imperfect and what ths Society have been trying to do to trace this information.
Harrison mentioned specifically the portrait of Pepys and Harrison thinks it quite probably that photographs have been taken of this picture, but the only one in his knowledge is a photograph taken by Sir William Abney who photograph all the portraits in the Royal Society's possession for his own satisfactions. |
