TitleCopy letter from Archibald Geikie to Lord Mayor [Sir James Bell]
Date1 March 1912
DescriptionWhen the Lord Mayor was so good as to dine with the Royal Society last St Andrew's Day Geikie mentioned that the Society intended to celebrate its 250th birthday in July and this will include a commemorative dinner on 16th July. As the Society received support in its infancy from the muncipal authorities of the City, they should much like to hold the dinner in the City. Geikie asks if the Society could hold the dinner in the historic Guildhall. Geikie has already sent an official letter of application to the Town Clerk and writes to ask that the Lord Mayor will give the application favourable consideration.
