Description'I am directed by the President of the Royal Society to acknowledge your letter of the 27th February enclosing a copy of a note from the German Ambassador conveying the condolences of the Imperial Chancellor and of the Prussian Government upon the death of Lord Lister, who was for five years President of this Society.
I am to beg you to convey to the German Ambassador the high appreciation felt by the Royal Society of this mark of sympathy in the great loss suffered by science in the death of Lord Lister, and the express the gratification felt by the Society at the personal tribute paid to his memory by His Majesty the Emperor of Germany at the funeral in Westminster Abbey.'
