Description | 'Many thanks for your letter about the specimen page of the Catalogue. I do not agree with all your arguments, because most of them seem to me to weigh in favour of my suggestion for printing the reference numerals at the end of the line; but I am willing to defer to your practical judgment to the extent of making a compromise between the end of the line and the present position of the figures (which in my opinion does not make them clear, but muddles them up with the title). I therefore propose, and have instructed the Oxford PRess, to print these reference figures a short distance, about one eighth inch further away from the title, where I think they will catch the eye a good deal better than in their present position. I have sent back the specimen page with this modification and told the printers to do ahead now with setting up on these lines. I trust that is all right.' |
