Description | Harrison hopes that the recipient will forgive him for the delay in writing to that her for her letter of the 26th March & 28 Inst, and for the trouble she has taken to with the [ascription] of the portrait of Neville Maskelyne, the Astronomer Royal of the 18th century. Harrison has been overwhelmed with official work and was anxious before writing to the recipient to be in any position to give her an assurance from internal evidence of the confirmation of the convincing testimony contained in her introductory letter. Harrison has now been able to do this and discusses how the recipient's letter has helped him to be able to read the ascription on the back of the painting, which Harrison has examined in 'strong sunlight'. |
