TitleCopy letter from Robert William Frederick Harrison to R Kirkpatrick
Date27 January 1913
DescriptionKirkpatrick's application for a grant of £25 in aid of the expense in illustrating a paper on the sponge astrosclera willeyana lister was laid before the Council at their meeting last week. The Council found it difficult to deal with the application for the following reasons.
The grant is placed in their hands solely for the purpose of assisting the adequate publication of scientific matter, that means not assistance apart from the actual cost of publication. As Kirpatrick's paper is not yet written and would be published by the Royal Society at their expense, the Society would be making a grant to itself. If the application was really meant to aid the expense of preparing the paper, then it does not come within the scape of the Publication Grant at all.
