TitleCopy letter from Arthur Schuster to the Secretary, HM Treasury
Date27 January 1913
Description'The President and Council of the Royal Society at their last meeting had before them Sir Thomas Heath's letter of December 23, conveying the assent of My Lords of the Treasury to the Council's suggestion that Lord Rayleigh should be nominated for a further term of office as Vice Chairman of the General Board and Executive Committee of the National Physical Laboratory, notwithstanding the terms of the scheme of Organization under which he was precluded from re-election to that office after twelve years service.
With reference to the last paragraph of Sir Thomas Heath's letter I am directed to say that the President and Council, after full consideration, decided that it is very desirable in the interests of the Laboratory that Lord Rayleigh's reappointment should be for the full period of six years, and they trust that this view will have the concurrence of My Lords of the Treasury.'
