Last year the Government Grant Committee made a grant of £15 to Sir George Darwin for the Reduction of Tidal Observations at Dover, however Sir George did not draw this money before his death. Harrison has now had a visit from Mr Edward Robert who tells him that Sir George engaged him to do that work and that the £15 was applied for to pay him. Harrison has no reason to believe this is not true and Mr Roberts is well know to many astronomers; but there is no written evidence of this claim. Harrison asks Darwin to help him resolve the situation and suggests that the correct way of proceeding would be for Roberts to make a claim of his executors, and for the Royal Society to send them the cheque. |
