Date13 March 1913
Description'Adverting to recent correspondence regarding the nomination of a candidate for the appointment of third scientific assistant in the Indian Meteorological Department. I have to inform you that the subject has now been fully considered by the Observatories Committee of the Royal Society and that the claims of several candidates have been reviewed with the object of making a suitable recommendation to the Secretary of State.
The Committee received a report from Mr J H Field and myself who interviewed three of the candidates personally, and in the results they desire to recommend Mr H J E Bailey for the appointment. Mr Bailey took honours in Physics and Mathematics at Oxford, and at the present time is holding a temporary appointment at Rugby School. This however, it is understood, he can resign at short notice.
