TitleCopy letter from Robert William Frederick Harrison to the Secretary, the Institution of Mechanical Engineers
Date18 April 1913
Description'By the lamented death of Sir William White a vacancy has arisen on the Governing Body of the National Physical Laboratory, and under the Scheme of Organization, Section 7 Sub-Section, the President and Council of the Royal Society may nominate to the vacancy after consultation with the technical Institution concerned.
Our Council meets next week and it is proposed to suggest the name of your President, Sir H F Donaldson to take the vacant place on the Executive. I am therefore instructed to ask whether that nomination would be acceptable to the Council of your Institution. I fear it may be impossible for you to obtain the opinion of your Council before next Thursday, but I shall be much obliged by a reply at your earliest convenience.'
