TitleCopy letter from Robert William Frederick Harrison to the Right Honourable A [Arthur] J [James] Balfour FRS
Date21 April 1913
DescriptionA letter has been received from the Director of the Lawes Agricultural Trust Experimental Station at Rothampstead enclosing some correspondence that the Royal Society's Solicitors had with Balfour on the subject of a Trustee vacancy. The Royal Society nominated Balfour to replace Wilkingham at a meeting of the Council of the Royal Society at which Balfour was present; Harrison therefore infers that the nomination was made with Balfour's consent at the time. Harrison writes that it is possible that Balfour has not associated the communication made at the time with this nomination.
Harrison is assured by the Director that the duties of the Trustees are purely nominal, and that it is rarely, if ever, necessary to call them together. The other Trustees are Lord Avebury and A Lyttleton.
In the circumstances described Harrison hopes that Balfour may see his way to accepting the nomination.
