Title | Copy letter from Robert William Frederick Harrison, to Sir Alfred Bray Kempe, Treasurer of the Royal Society |
Date | 13 June 1913 |
Description | Harrison has been looking into the records of the Gunning Fund awarded in the ledger right back to 1898, and it seems there ought to be available a full three years accumulation, in addition to the accumulation which was not expended on the Rucker and Thorpe Magnetic Survey, and that the reason why it is not available in actual cash is that in 1907 a sum of £58.10 which consisted, at any rate in part if not altogether of accrued income, was invested and added to the capital.
The account has been complicated by the fact that on two occasions the award has been made a year later than the date at which the three years accumulation available for it closed. Presumes the technically correct thing to do would be to sell out enough capital to make up the accumulations now in hand to a full three years income, in order to hand it over to Professor Hill. Doubts Kempe will care to do that, and Harrison shall be glad to know whether [Hill] is to be paid now only the amount in hand, with the balance to follow later, or if not, what cheque should be drawn. If Sir Arthur Rucker and Sir Edward Thorpe has claimed their grant [in 1907] this point would have arisen then. |
