TitleCopy letter from Robert William Frederick Harrison, to Dr [George Walker] Walker, Fellow of the Royal Society
Date29 September 1913
DescriptionIn response to Walker's letter of yesterday, the absolute magnetic instruments at Falmouth were purchased out of the Government Grant, and therefore technically at the disposition of the Government Grant Committee. They would no doubt be placed at Walker's disposal if they are no longer in use at Falmouth, but Harrison does not know how that stands. The Clerk to the Committee is writing to find out.

The two chronometers have been sent to the Royal Society by the Astronomer Royal and have been kept wound ever since they arrived. They were accompanied by a note of their rates. Harrison has had a chronometer which was used in the last survey in his custody for years. It was left with him by Sir Arthur Rucker and the late Astronomer Royal was written to several times about it, but it was never claimed. If he would like to use this in addition to the others it ought to go to Greenwich to be rated.

There is already a roll of maps sent from the Survey Office. All of this will be kept for him until he next comes up.
