TitleCopy letter from Herbert Rix, to W K Curtis, Burgate Street, Canterbury
Date5 January 1892
DescriptionRix states his belief that Curtis is mistaken in thinking John Graunt and Sir William Petty were the same person. Graunt is described as "a shopkeeper of London" and was one of the original Fellows of the Royal Society, and Petty was another name from the first list of Fellows. He further states that in 'A Collection of the Yearly Bills of Mortality', published in 1759, there are separate essays by Graunt and Petty, so Rix cannot imagine the grounds on which he supposes them to be the same person.

Petty is named on sereval occasions in Weld's 'History of the Royal Society', but the demands of official work will prevent them from undertaking further research for him. Rix recommends he visit London and consult the works in the public libraries. He is able to tell him that Petty was born on 16 May 1623 and died on 16 December 1687, and was knighted on 11 April 1661.
