TitleCopy letter from Herbert Rix, to Henry Clifton Sorby, Fellow of the Royal Society
Date29 April 1891
DescriptionRix is sorry to hear of Sorby's troubles 'both in house & neighbourhood', and sympathises as the Royal Society's Senior Secretary and two of their staff are ill with the "gripple" [form of influenza]. He states that they cannot leave his exhibit uncertain until the last moment, as amongst other inconveniences, if the item appears in the programme 'the crowds will inevitably come trooping down at the appointed hour...'.

Rix does, however, state that they can leave the matter until Tuesday morning to allow Sorby to say whether or not he can show his exhibit, at which point they will need a telegram before noon informing them of his decision. If it remains uncertain, they should remove the type from the programme.
