Mr Collings has consulted with Professor Victor Horsley, and has concluded that three illustrations should be white on black, four should be black on white, and 19 should be facsimiled with full shading, with the total cost to be 32 pounds. Rix asks if he is to accept, or whether to wait for the Committee of Papers. Rix also reports Fleming's estimate for plates at 47 pounds excluding lettering, making the overall cost for illustrations over 80 pounds.
Rix asks if Foster will write to Mr Hulke and ask whether he is willing to represent the Royal Society on the Governing Body of Charterhouse. He encloses the resolution, and notes that Lord Rayleigh did not act upon it, due to the uncertainty about appointing a successor until Dr Duncan had formally resigned, but that he has now done so.
He has investigated the delay in sending Harry Marshall Ward's cheque for the Croonian Lecture, and discovers that it was not an oversight, but the money has not yet come to the Royal Society, having been due in December 1890. As Ward delivered his lecture earlier than usual, in February instead of June, the delay appeared much longer than it was. The money is, however, now over four months overdue, and so Rix or the Treasurer will write to the College of Physicians to ascertain the reason for the delay. |
