| Description | Rix asks for Evans' assistance as a Trustee of the British Museum to persuade the trustees to set aside the rule which states that those under the age of 21 cannot use the reading room; currently the superintendent of the British Museum reading room will not allow Miss Chapman and Miss Burfield to use the library for cataloguing due to their age, and it cannot be done on the strength of a letter from Rix.
He also asks if Evans would like the portrait of the late Sir Warrington Smyth framed, or place in their portfolio with the rest of the collection. Framing would cost ten shillings and six pence.
Dr Gilbert is noted as having applied to purchase copies of Phil. Trans ['Philosophical Transactions of the Royal Society'] 1859 part 2 and 1860 part 2 at a reduction. Rix outlines the prices to fellows, and states that Evans let him have the former at 12 shillings and six pence last time. He has applied for 100 or more copies this time, and they have 140 and 160 copies in stock respectively. He suggests 100 copies at 12 shillings and six pence, and 120 copies at 6 shillings and six pence.
A postscript notes that Rix does not think there are any agenda items for the Lawes Trust, except the election, or re-election of a secretary. |
