DescriptionRix reports that he laid Tennent's letter of 27 June before the Officers of the Royal Society at their recent meeting, and has been instructed to inform him that the Copley and other medals are awarded under certain regulations by the Council for 'successful Researches of especial and pre-eminent value', and is always spontaneous rather than made at the request of any applicant.

Rix returns the written description of Tennent's discovery.
