Description | Rix refers to the matter of some tents, with which they should not interfer, with the exception of if the scaffolding is mishappen. He encloses a cheque for 17 pounds, and 13 shillings of W de la Rue's Donation Fund grant, which by vote of Council was continued to his executors, and so is now payable to A L Soper for the 'Sunspot' work which has recently been completed. The amount actually due is 20 pounds, but as he cannot have more than the balance of the grant, he is content. Rix asks that Evans sign and return it to him.
He also encloses a note from the gas engineers, and asks if he should do what they suggest.
A postscript refers to the illness of their charwoman, who has recently returned 'in a very feeble state', and Rix explains that they have hired a woman to assist her on Thursdays and Fridays, for which she will be paid three shillings and six pence. As their charwoman has given at least 14 years service, he believes her wages should not be docked in consequence of this change. |
