TitleCopy letter from Herbert Rix, to Professor Michael Foster, [Royal Society]
Date5 October 1891
DescriptionUpdates on matters of Royal Society business.

Rix explains that Dr Arthur Gamgee's name is suspended for non-payment of his annual contribuion, and he will be removed from the Royal Society list if it is not received by the end of the month. He wonders whether Gamgee is a candidate for payment from the Scientific Relief Fund, but notes that it has not come forward as such.

He believes that Lord Rayleigh has written about the suggested morning session of Council, and has mentioned it to John Evans, the Treasurer, who states that it would suit him and enable him to 'get his shooting' which he had delayed declining on account of the Council. Rix also believes that Evans has written to Foster to propose the 5 November for Council, and asks for confirmation of this to allow time for his preparations. He states they ought to have the Committee prior to the 29 October regarding the 'Catalogue of Scientific Papers' and the Mountain Observatory Committee, and he will let Foster know how matters stand in this regard.

Rix encloses two reports on Mr Sinclair's paper, and asks if he should begin work on it, or wait for the Committee.
