TitleCopy letter from Herbert Rix, to Sir William Thomson, President of the Royal Society
Date1 December 1891
Description'Dear Sir,
As you entered the room from the Hotel entrance last evening, Mr James did not have an opportunity of asking for your fee. I ought to explain that it has been customary for the president to pay his guinea with the rest of the Fellows, though personally I am inclined to think that considering the labours thrown upon him, he ought to be exempt! Kindly send a cheque at your leisure.
Yours obediently
Herbert Rix
Asst Sec RS [Assistant Secretary, Royal Society]'.
