Description | Is directed to refer to the letter from Sir William Crookes, President of the Royal Society, to the Secretary of State, date 29 January last, relating to the provision of facilities for a party which it is proposed to despatch to Russia for the purpose of observing the eclipse of the sun next August, and to ask whether it has been possible for the Secretary of State to obtain a decision from the Russian Government in the matter.
The Committee which is organizing the expedition is anxious now to be taking steps with regard to passages and hotel accommodation for the observing party, and it is important to them to know whether the necessary permits for entry into Russia will be accorded to all the members of the party, including the two Jesuit fathers from Stonyhurst College. The Royal Society will be very glad to receive an early reply to the application. |
