Description | Harrison's attention has been called to a circular application which they have sent to a very distinguished Fellow asking him to sit for a photograph. If they think fit to apply to the public men for sitting on your own account then that is no concern of the Royal Society, but the circular undoubtedly suggests that they have an official connection with the Society. It is headed 'The Royal Society of London' and it speaks of an approved likeness to be included in the album of photographs kept at the room at Burlington House. It is true there is an album that is bought from them, but such transactions do not in any way justify the implication that his application to sitters are in any way authorized or endorsed by the Society. Would like an assurance that any future applications should not be worded in such a way. |
