TitleCopy letter from Arthur Schuster, to The Director, The Meteorological Office
Date24 June 1914
DescriptionWhen arrangements were made for the transference from Kew to Teddington of the test work carried out at Kew by the Executive Committee of the National Physical Laboratory, it was agreed that the Committee of the Laboratory, acting for the Royal Society, should retain the sole right to the use of the [?] mark on instruments which pass the tests of the Committee.

The mark is registered by the Society as a trade mark, and in connection with this registration the Board of Trade have asked for a formal statement to show that the right to use the mark is retained by the Society and has not been made over by them to the Meteorological Office. The papers dealing with the arrangement between the Society and the Meteorological Office as to Kew Observatory to not refer to the matter, and a letter to make the position clear to the Board of Trade is desired.
