TitleCopy letter from Arthur Schuster, to Professor [John Norman] Collie, Fellow of the Royal Society
Date3 July 1914
DescriptionThe paper by Egerton on 'The analysis of gases after passage of electric discharges', which Collie communicated in June, was before the Sectional Committee last week. The Committee agreed that the paper should be published by the Royal Society, but thought that it would be greatly improved by some revision, and Schuster has been directed to ask whether Collie will use his influence with the author to put the paper in a more suitable form.

His commendable desire for brevity eans that the paper will not be fully understood by people unfamiliar with this particular work. If he supplied a short introduction indicating the state of the subject before his experiments were made, with references, and formulating more precisely the questions he sets out to attack.
