TitleCopy letter from John Rose Bradford, to The Under Secretary of State, Colonial Office
Date30 July 1914
DescriptionThe Tropical Disease Committee of the Royal Society have under their consideration a proposal originating some time ago in a suggestion from the Colonial Office, that the services of Miss Robertson who has lately returned from her term of service for the investigation into trypanosomiasis in Uganda, should be utilised in the Sudan to investigate the problems of camel trypanosomiasis. This disease is responsible for serious losses among the camels, horses and cattle in Egypt, the Sudan and parts of British East Africa.

A thorough investigation which might afford a basis for measures of control and prevention is consequently a matter of considerable economic importance. The Royal Society desire to recommend this proposal to the favourable consideration of the Secretary of State and suggests that, if he sees his way to commissioning Robertson to proceed to Khartoum for the purpose mentioned, the Society would supervise the enquiry, and that Robertson should report to the Society from time to time.

The Committee discussed a rough estimate of cost and advise this would not exceed £1000 per annum for two years, which they consider the least time that should be devoted to it.
