TitleCopy letter from Robert William Frederick Harrison, Assistant Secretary of the Royal Society to R C Hawkin, Wounded Allies Relief Committee, Grand Hotel, Trafalgar Square, SW
Date13 January 1915
Description'I am sorry to have missed seeing you this morning, but I have heard the object of your visit, which, if it is intended to be pressed seriously, must be made the subject of a formal application to the Council of the Society. In that case I feel sure that the first questions asked would be whether your organization does not overlap other existing organizations for the relief of our Allies, and it might be well for you to anticipate this question in any application you make; and to furnish all the evidence you have of the weight and stability of your organization; because, to grant the request I understand you wish to make, would dislocate the whole of the domestic economy of the Royal Society.'
