TitleCopy letter from Robert William Frederick Harrison, Assistant Secretary of the Royal Society to Dr Ernest Howard Griffiths FRS
Date16 January 1915
Description'In answer to your enquiry concerning German publications the situation here is this:- We have received no German publications since the declaration of war, so that our 1914 subscriptions are all uncompleted, and we have given no order to any bookseller to procure such publications for 1915. Our general attitude is that we prefer to wait and take no steps for the present.
We have received a similar letter from "David Nutt", but have given them no order. It would probably be feasible to get the books, at an enhanced and uncertain price and after an uncertain interval, but we have preferred not to make any arrangement for the purpose.
I think what "David Nutt" says is probably correct - that they and certain other "Foreign" booksellers have some sort of license to buy and sell German books, but of course a customer could ask to be shown the authorization before giving an order.'
