TitleCopy letter from Robert William Frederick Harrison, Assistant Secretary of the Royal Society to Professor Karl Pearson FRS
Date27 January 1915
Description'In answer to your enquiry concerning Daniel Coxe MD, I fear we cannot give you must information, as very little is known about the Fellows of the Society in its earlier days.
Our records show he was elected on March 22nd, 1665 (NS) and the Philosophical Transactions, Volume 9, contained three papers by him, the subjects of which are-
1. Extracting votatil salt and spirit out of vegetables.
2. Denying the pre-existence of alcatizate or fixed salts in any subject before it were exposed to the action of the fire, etc.
3. A continuation of (2) etc.
In the "Roll of the Royal College of Physicians" he is described as a doctor of medicine of Cambridge (per literas regias) of 1669 - admitted Hon. Fellow of the College 1680 - died January 1729/30, aged 90.
In this library we have a book which may be by him, but it bears no name on the title, which is "A discourse wherein the interest of the patient in reference to Physick and Physicians is soberly debated &c &c (1669).
I hope these few particulars may be of service to you.'
