TitleCopy letter from Robert William Frederick Harrison, Assistant Secretary of the Royal Society to Col. C F Close CMG RE
Date26 March 1915
DescriptionFrom Close's letter, Harrison is sorry to see that there must be some misunderstanding as regards to Harrison's letter.
In order to extend the magnetic survey to Ireland, Schuster understood it to be necessary under present circumstances to obtain a special permit to allow a motor car to enter the country and a means of identification to protect Mr Walker. Harrison and the Officers of the Society believed that the simplest course would be to apply direct to the War Office. Had Harrison known that the Ordnance Survey had the power to give permission he would have written to Close directly and writes that the case was not that the Royal Society did not full appreciate the great value of being associated with the Ordnance Survey to conduct the Magnetic Survey.
