| Description | 'I have reason to believe that the Sectional Committee of Physics and Chemistry would be prepared to recommend your paper on "The consumption of carbon in the electric arc" for publication in the Proceedings if you would condense it to not more than 2/3 of its present length. In particular the descriptive part dealing with the mushroom growth is much too long, as the details of this phenomena seem well know. The tables of figures if retained might be considerably shortened by giving average values for arc length, taking in groups thus. [see letter for table]
One figure of the mushroom growth might be kept in and the other diagrams should be drawn in a suitable form for reproduction.
I return the paper to you and should be glad to know whether you agree to shorten the paper in the manner indicated.' |
