| Description | 'Some time since the President had sent to him from Mr T J J See of Mare Island, California, a long dissertation (568 typewritten quarto pages on "Electrodynamic theory of magnetism and of universal gravitation", covered by a letter to Lord Rayleigh. Neither the President nor Lord Rayleigh at the time would undertake to communicate this as a paper to the Society, and so it has hitherto not so been treated. Now however Lord Rayleigh has received an addendum to the treatise, and has sent it on with a note saying "I can hardly refuse to communicate this to the Royal Society". We presume this act to apply to the whole paper, and I have consequently registered it as a communication from Lord Rayleigh, and have been directed to ask you if you will undertake to look at it and report ipon its suitability for reading and publication by the Society. If you will send me a postcard to say you are willing to undertake this duty, I will send you the paper with the usual formal reference.' |
