TitleCopy letter from Joseph John Thomson, President of the Royal Society; to [Sir Henry Frank Heath], Secretary of the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research; Great George Street, Westminster, S.W.
Date15 March 1917
DescriptionInforms the Secretary that the memorandum of the interview which he had with the Lord Representative of the Council on the subject of the National Physical Laboratory appears to record faithfully what took place. It is understood that the Lord President is of the opinion that the Society should retain the scientific management of the Laboratory, and that the Executive Committee should continue to be selected in the current manner. The only point which remains unclear is what the effect would be of the proposed provision that the Executive Committe would be a 'Committee of Management' under the Department. Notes that the Society would appreciate if this point were cleared before any further meeting takes place.
