TitleCopy letter from Robert William Frederick Harrison, Assistant Secretary of the Royal Society; to [Sir Henry Frank Heath], Secretary of the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research; Great George Street, Westminster, S.W.
Date12 June 1917
DescriptionRefers to several grant applications made to the Royal Society. Notes that the application of Professor Wren has been before the Council who referred it to the appropriate Board of the Government Grant Committee. Notes that the application for the Municipal Technical Institute, Belfast, has been under consideration by the Applied Sciences Committee and that their report is threefold. 1) The application for £30 for research on the explosion and combustion of light hydrocarbons is important, however, the Committee note that the sum asked for is inadequate for a serious attempt on the subject. 2) The application for £10 for research on the elastic deflection of square and rectangular plates was granted. 3) The application for £10 for research on elastic lines in alternating stress tests was denied on the grounds that no details of experimental method were provided.
