TitleCopy letter from Robert William Frederick Harrison, Assistant Secretary of the Royal Society; to Sir Clement Kinloch-Cooke, MP
Date26 July 1919
DescriptionResponding to a message from the recipient and a letter from Mr Montagu Evans, advises the only letter he has found from Mr Evans is to the President of the Royal Society Sir Joseph [John] Thomson, and received on the 30 May, enquiring about a paper sent to the PRS on 11 April, but there is no record of such a paper being received by the office, where it would have been recorded. He advises it may have been sent personally to Sir Joseph [John] Thomson, PRS, and put aside 'in the multitude of his engagements and responsibilities.' He will speak to Sir Joseph Thomson that afternoon if he sees him as he expects to. He notes Mr Evans has received some communication from the Royal Society as he is aware that under the statutory rules every paper for consideration must be communicated by a Fellow of the Royal Society. While not suggesting Mr Evan's paper is such, he notes the Society and President of the Royal Society 'receive a considerable number of communications of a rather visionary character which their authors believe to be of epoch making importance, but which are of no scientific value,' and papers sent outside the normal processes run a greater risk of being put aside.
