| Description | Regarding the Mackie Anthropological Expedition to Central Africa led by the Reverend John Roscoe under the auspices of the Royal Society, advises that the expedition has not received the assistance expected from the Colonial Office. Says the expedition was delayed from 1917 to 1919 due to the War. When landing in Mombasa Mr Roscoe found that the Governor [of East Africa] did not feel himself authorised to give the expected assistance, including free passage through customs and passage on the railway, which Mr Roscoe had been relying upon. Requests official authorisation to the appropriate local authorities for the use of steamers, trains and other transport free of charge, and to grant Roscoe 'every practicable facility for the prosecution of his researches.' |
