DescriptionExpresses gratitude on the behalf of the Royal Society for the reception and hospitality given to the Eclipse Expedition organised jointly between the Royal Society and the Royal Astronomical Society [29 May, 1919]. 'British Science deeply appreciates the great assistance rendered by you, by Sr Jeronymo Carneiro, and by many others on the Island of Principe.' Advises the principal objective of the expedition was achieved and the exceptionally important results announced at a meeting held at the Royal Society on 6 November; 'Confirming as they do, a theory which is regarded by many as the most outstanding achievement in physical science since the discoveries of Newton, the conclusions have been received with an extraordinary degree of interest by the Society.'
