DescriptionAdvises there are five outstanding papers for the Physics Committee. 1. Coker and Chakko, 'The stress-strain properties of nitro-cellulose.' He will instruct [Robert Frederick William] Harrison, FRS, to put it onto the Agenda for a meeting of the Committee. 2. MacBain and Salmon, 'Collodial electrolytes. Soap solutions and their constitution.' He understands that Sir Richard [Tetley] Glazebrook, FRS, and Sir [Arthur] Schuster, FRS, were together going to pass the paper under Standing Order 43, but advises this is not possible as it is a paper for the 'Transactions of the Royal Society' and 30 pages. One referee recommended publication, the other that it be shortened to the length required by the 'Proceedings of the Royal Society.' Advises he is leaving the decision on further action to Sir Glazebrook. 3. Raman and Baneiji, 'Kaufman's theory of the Impact of the Pianoforte.' There are two favourable reports, it is estimated at 14 pages of the 'Proceedings of the Royal Society.' He would agree if Sir Glazebrook advises proceeding under Standing Order 43. 4. Horton and Davies, 'An experimental determination of the critical electron velocities for the production of radiation and ionisation on collision with argon atoms.' The author has removed three pages of the paper, reducing its estimated size in the Proceedings from 26 to 24 pages. Asks if Sir Glazebrook would like to proceed under Standing Order 43. 5. Farr and Macleod, 'The viscosity of sulpher.' Advises Lees suggests the table of values should be removed wherever curves are given, and [Sir James Hopwood ] Jeans, FRS, agrees. Dr Schuster did not agree, and Jeans suggests making him second referee, which he has said he is willing to do.
